Cyber Security Report #7 – 2023

NTT Security’s latest report on cybersecurity contains three interesting observations.

Nagoya Port, Japan’s busiest, has been crippled by a LockBit ransomware attack that halted container operations for several days. The attack, attributed to a notorious group, could harm the Japanese economy.

In July, Microsoft announced that Outlook email accounts of around 25 global organizations, including 2 U.S. government agencies, had been hacked by suspected Chinese hackers. Criticism was directed at Microsoft for lack of clarity regarding the theft of the attack key and inadequate vulnerability recognition.

Many confirmed APT attacks originating from China and Russia utilize USB drives to propagate malicious code. All organizations should guard against this risk and take precautions when using USB drives.
